Dr. HERBert believes in the practice of Structure-Based Care as opposed to Evidence-Based Care. Evidence-Based Care asks the question of what is wrong, acquires the evidence, appraises the evidence, applies what is discovered against the best practice, and then evaluates the outcomes of change. The opportunity with Evidence-Based Care is that it does not necessarily get to the root causes of the problems and often treats only the apparent symptoms produced by underlying issues. The person’s environment, beliefs, diet, stress levels, and behavioral factors are not observed holistically before reaching a prognosis and treatment regimen with Evidence-Based Care.
Structure-Based Care involves the practice of fully assessing the person’s situation holistically to reach a prognosis and apply a regimen that will address the factors in the person’s life that may be causing the various problems or conditions to manifest. A good assessment of a client’s condition is reached based on the evidence, the person’s description of the symptoms, which is subjective, and their current lifestyle habits.
